Historical manuals often describe processes with measurements, materials and assumptions that no longer belong to everyday practice. The first task is to understand the intention behind the recipe: which fibre it addressed, which water it expected and what kind of colour counted as successful.
In the studio, each recipe is adapted carefully and recorded. The result is not an imitation of the past, but a repeatable method that respects its logic while working safely with today’s materials.
Vintage plant-based fabrics make this research tangible. Linen, cotton and hemp already carry a history; dyeing gives them another chapter instead of replacing what came before.
